Many people are facing difficulty as winter approaches in Afghanistan. Displacement, food shortages, and lack of jobs all create hardships.
An Afghan man writes about the trouble his people are facing: “This winter in Afghanistan is bitterly cold, and thousands of families are struggling just to stay alive. In many areas, even job opportunities have disappeared. There is no work, not even simple labor, for fathers to earn a piece of bread for their families.
“Many fathers spend the entire fall season in the mountains, collecting dry wood to save for the winter. They hope that by the time the snow arrives, they will have enough to burn in their stoves. But even after all that hard work, they cannot earn enough to buy food, blankets, or warm jackets for their children.
“Mothers go from home to home, humbly asking for old jackets or clothes that other children have outgrown. They sew the ripped parts, patch torn sleeves, and do whatever they can to keep their little ones warm. Some collect small scraps of fabric and old clothes to stitch together makeshift blankets.
“Hunger and cold have become part of daily life. Children cry through the night, and parents stay awake, praying for warmth and food. Still, even in the middle of such hardship, many hold onto faith and hope. They believe that God still sees them—and that help will come through the kindness and compassion of others.
“We ask you, from the bottom of our hearts, to remember them. Your prayers and generosity can bring warmth, food, and comfort to families who have nothing left. Even a small act of love can bring hope to a mother, warmth to a child, and strength to a father who has given his all.”
