Finding out God is Real

Throughout my childhood, I attended church regularly. But as I got older, our family stopped attending, and my doubts began to grow. In high school, I learned about evolution, and I heard ideas about how God is unjust. . . . Then I watched the video “Why am I an atheist?” and I decided God is not real.

I felt kind of scared, but also free at the same time, knowing I could do whatever I want and God isn’t watching over me. But without God there’s really no inherent meaning . . . and you’re really insignificant. This kind of made me sad.

So I started looking into philosophy. I watched a video about nihilism, and it really changed my perspective. The video talked about how life is meaningless and that without God, there is no right or wrong. I got very sad knowing that, because I believe there’s evil because I’ve seen it. I started learning more about the Big Bang, and I was like, That doesn’t really make sense. Maybe I believe there might be a God.

Scrolling mindlessly on social media one day, I saw a video with Gospel billboards in it, and I thought, I’m about to debate these people and show them what’s right and wrong, show them God isn’t real. I called and was very stumped whenever they could actually answer my questions.

I called every day for two weeks, digging and digging, trying to figure out the truth, and eventually all my questions were answered. And I got scared. I’d been living this carefree life of only caring about myself and adopting hedonistic pleasures, and when I found God was real, I kind of felt sad. I felt regret. After all I’ve done, you know, He died for me and this is how I treat Him. I finally acknowledged that Christ is Lord.

Since sharing his testimony, Carson briefly drifted away from the Lord, but called back later to say that he wants to be a Christian. He asked for a church reference, and our phone team member pointed him to an Anabaptist church nearby. Let’s pray for Carson as God continues to work in his life.
