One afternoon, 37-year-old Isaac* called 83-FOR-TRUTH and presented himself as an atheist. Over the course of nearly five hours, he spoke with five phone team members. He began by saying he saw the billboard message, Where are you going—heaven or hell? “Does your God know where I’m going since the moment I was born?”
“Yes,” said the team member who had taken the call. “If He didn’t know, He wouldn’t be God.”
“Why do my choices matter?” asked Isaac. “Your God is omnipotent, omniscient, and benevolent, correct?” Our team member replied, “If He wasn’t, He wouldn’t be God.”
Isaac then wondered why God would have been upset with Eve since He already knew what Eve would do. It appears as if God was surprised by what Eve did, so did He really know the future?
“Do you believe in God?” our team member asked. Isaac’s response was that our team member is almost as much of an atheist as he is since our team member didn’t believe in 99.9% of the other gods.
Our team member went on to say there is only one true God who presents Himself as a benevolent Creator God. Christianity is the only religion, faith, or belief that has the evidence and material witness of God. He came from heaven to earth, dwelt in human form, was crucified, and then rose from the dead. Jesus Christ was truly God incarnate. God gave Himself for us. No other god has done that.
Isaac completely ignored what was said. He asked for material evidence that God exists without citing the Bible.
Our team member then spoke of the complexity and design of our natural world along with Biblical accounts and prophetic writings. Isaac was not convinced and said our brother didn’t present a good argument that God exists.
Isaac continued calling and asking the same questions to different team members. Those conversations didn’t satisfy Isaac’s line of questioning concerning God and His character. He couldn’t grasp the concept of God’s foreknowledge and the free will He gave mankind.
Isaac’s loneliness was evident when he told a few team members that he loved them. He wanted to hear someone say, “I love you too.” Our brothers responded with, “I love you.”
The last team member who spoke with Isaac that day finished the conversation by saying, “My goal was to give you a warning of a judgment day coming. I want you to get right with God. Now is the time to get right with God. It’s your choice. Have I been clear?”
“Yes,” Isaac said.
Isaac told one of our team members that he was happy to see the billboard because he would not have had these conversations otherwise. Please pray that Isaac will soften his heart and experience the love of the true God.
