Larry* is a missionary’s son. “I lost my faith in God,” he said. “I’ve been searching. I know I need to do something. I saw your billboards in Detroit because I travel quite a lot. When I called your number, I was expecting nothing. What I was expecting was that it would be a voice message. I am so grateful I was able to talk to you—to a person.” Larry wondered if God was trying to speak to him.
“Yes,” our team member assured him. “This is the Holy Spirit at work, on time, at the right place, at the right time.”
Larry quoted a verse he remembered as a boy, “The joy of the Lord is your strength” and said, “I don’t have that joy, but I want it.
“When I started to look at people, I started to sink,” he continued, “like Peter on the water. That’s what I’ve been doing. I’m losing my way. I’m starting to sink.”
Our team member had a long talk with this caller about many things—matters of conscience, an intellectual understanding in response to truth, and the necessity of a heart response and an act of the will and of faith. They talked about God’s promises in the Scriptures. At the end our team member asked Larry if he wanted to pray.
“Yes, I do,” he responded.
Larry prayed a simple prayer, repenting and asking for God’s presence in his life. Praise God that another soul turned back to Him.
