Tornados caused massive destruction in western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and eastern Missouri on the afternoon and evening of May 16. More than 24 people were killed and in some areas homes and structures were demolished.
Rapid Response Services is responding in several of these areas to help with cleanup from the chaos the tornados left behind.
The Bloomington, Indiana, area was affected by an EF-2 tornado. The Indiana Rapid Response team is cleaning up trees and homes in this area this week.
The Tennessee/Kentucky Rapid Response team is setting up a base at a Mennonite church in the London, Kentucky, area to start cleanup on Wednesday.
In response to the EF-3 tornado that went through Williamson County, Illinois, the Illinois Rapid Response team is working on cleanup in the town of Marion.
In St. Louis, Missouri, five people died and more than 5,000 homes were affected by a tornado Friday evening. The Missouri Rapid Response team is doing research in this area to find any possible way to help.
Late Sunday evening, May 18, another tornado cut a path at least 20 miles long through western Kansas, causing extensive damage. The Kansas Rapid Response team is doing research in the towns of Grinnell and Plevna, as well as other areas.
