Potentially Dangerous Hurricane
Hurricane Helene is moving toward the Florida Big Bend region with the potential to have catastrophic hurricane-force winds when it lands this evening. The winds extend up to 400 miles from the center of Helene, causing concern for widespread devastation and flooding. It is expected to cause major flooding as it moves north and loses out over the Appalachia.
This storm is predicted to make landfall close to the same place two other major hurricanes hit recently – Hurricane Idalia around a year ago and Hurricane Michael in 2018. As people are ordered to evacuate, memories of the previous year’s destruction cause fear and uncertainty.
CAM teams are on standby
As Hurricane Helene approaches, CAM’s Rapid Response teams have been alerted. Various teams, including the Georgia and Florida teams, are ready to respond as soon as it is safe to travel. The generator trailer is staged in Georgia and the Loaves & Fishes Food Kitchen is on standby, ready to be deployed if the need arises. Please pray for the people in the path of Hurricane Helene and those who are ready to investigate and help people in need.
