Jessica,* from Fritch, Texas, knew what it felt like to see belongings—things she treasured—ruined in a few minutes. Her house was destroyed three times—the first when her mobile home was being moved, the second by a tornado, and the third by a fire.
Despite this, Jessica found joy in going through the melted pieces of metal and glass, pondering what it might have been. She watched as volunteers built her new home from pouring footers to nailing trim. At her house dedication, Jessica had DRS volunteers and staff sign their names on a wall of her new house. Through the kindness of volunteers, God gave Jessica “beauty for ashes.”
In many cases, disaster survivors are left devastated by their loss with few people to turn to. Disaster Response Services Rebuilding not only gives recipients a new home and renewed hope, but also gives staff and volunteers the opportunity to build relationships and share the love of Jesus.
