Political tension in Myanmar rose sharply in February 2021 when a military coup overthrew the country’s president. Violence and protests rapidly escalated in the months following. Now raids, widespread displacement, and fear are part of life in Myanmar.
Thousands are unemployed due to the conflict as well as the economic fallout of COVID-19. Food and fuel prices are soaring every day. Many are seeking shelter in forests and other hiding places. The future of Myanmar and its people looks grim.
