More than a decade of civil war has left Yemen’s people grieving, starving, and despondent. Millions have been displaced and live with only the bare necessities, clinging to the hope that tomorrow will be better.
Hassan* was known for his strong work ethic; he spent many years earning an honest living to support his wife, six children, a younger brother, and elderly father. But a sudden relapse in kidney disease stripped Hassan of his ability to work, squelching his dreams of providing for his family. Tragically, the disease also afflicted his younger brother and aging father. Hassan watched helplessly as the burden of survival slowly pressed down on his family.
The days stretched endlessly, filled with hunger, worry, and discouragement. It felt like hope had vanished as
Hassan and his family struggled with hunger and illness. Then one day, hope flickered when our Yemeni contacts arrived with food. That day, Hassan’s family received more than a parcel of food—they received a lifeline of hope.
Hunger and displacement are prevalent in Yemen. Thousands of Yemenis are facing famine-like conditions
while an estimated 4.5 million are displaced, most of whom have been displaced previously (source: UNHCR). Like Hassan and his family, many feel forgotten and have little hope. But the simple gift of food provides for families in need and replaces their sadness with joy. One recipient shared, “I am truly grateful… to every team member working tirelessly to support the most vulnerable. Your kindness has brought relief to people who often feel forgotten. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
A gift of 170 pounds of food such as flour, rice, beans, salt, and oil, along with some cooking gas, is a great help to a family struggling to find the next meal. Thank you, supporters, for blessing people who feel forgotten in the face of Yemen’s civil war.
