The misery of the blind

Survival itself is difficult in Liberia, and especially so for the blind. Desperate, these unseeing people spend their days on the streets begging. They plead for money to buy food and to send their children to school. “Most of their children go to school in the afternoon so they can spend the mornings helping their blind parents beg,” says a CAM staff member.

A monthly parcel of rice, beans, and other food through CAM’s International-Feed-A-Family program provides much-needed nourishment for these struggling families. “Were it not for the food box,” our staff member says, “they would be spending even more time on the streets.”
