Salim,* a Yemeni father of nine, battles a rheumatic disease in his legs that hinders his ability to walk and find employment. The house where he lives with his family threatens to collapse during heavy rains, driving them to seek shelter in a neighbor’s house.
This family also faces the hardship of belonging to a people group marginalized by most Yemenis. “Who would give us aid? Nobody looks at us,” Salim said. The family receives occasional help from Salim’s brother, but it falls short of covering their essential needs.
When our contacts arrived at Salim’s house with food, he smiled and said, “If it weren’t for the aid from you, we wouldn’t know how we could live. You brought happiness to us, even amidst the pain and challenges. Thank you very much.”
