Recovery is ongoing after the two earthquakes that hit Venezuela on June 24, 2026.
A contact from Mexico who was able to enter the country is reporting much destruction and damage. The rubble is being cleaned up by hand in hopes that more people will be found. One man the contact spoke with said: “I’m waiting for my 12-year-old girl to come out of that building. I think she was in the hall when it came down, but now it’s hard to tell where the hall was.”
Our contact mentioned, “Humans die so easily when a 10-story apartment building pancakes and crushes them, but hope dies so hard. Photos don’t show the extent of the damage or communicate the anguish of the family camping by their relatives’ temporary concrete tombs. Neither do photos allow you to feel the grime, and smell death in the air.” Statistics as of July 8, 2026:
- The official death toll is 3,685.
- More than 16,000 injured.
- Estimated to be more than 17,000 homeless.
- According to the UN, about 50,000 remain unaccounted for.
