Today (Saturday, July 11, 2026), we were working with a group of firefighters at a building that had 14 stories plus the ground floor. It is striking to see how compressed and destroyed it is; they say the bottom two floors collapsed because there was a water cistern right underneath.
There are approximately 80 people left to be recovered from this building. We saw many vultures circling overhead, drawn by the scent of the bodies. The situation is deeply sad, yet it is a time to cherish the life God gives us and reflect on our own fragility and the brevity of our existence. It is also a great opportunity to show God’s love to our neighbors.
We ask for your prayers that God may work in the lives of everyone involved, and that this small effort and service—despite the sense of powerlessness we feel in the face of the situation—may bear fruit.
CAM’s ongoing response
Donations continue to be used to support a team of Anabaptists assisting with disaster cleanup, helping to bring closure to those looking for lost loved ones. In addition to food, Christian literature, and temporary shelters, we are also purchasing personal hygiene supplies and distributing them through the already established soup kitchen network.
