Government Topples in Syria

Over the weekend, the long-standing al-Assad regime in Syria was overthrown by rebel groups. The groups moved rapidly from city to city, overtaking Aleppo, Hama, Homs, and then the capital, Damascus. One of our contacts has said that this overthrow has pushed Syria “into a phase that raises numerous questions without clear answers.” At this point, most Christians have been safe from harm, praise God! However, they face serious uncertainty about what the future might hold for them.

This contact further shared, “We are all invited to pray for peace in Syria and throughout the region, a dream shared by all after decades of wars, pain, and suffering caused by killing, displacement, destruction, and social fragmentation. In this season of His birth, we pray to the King of Peace, the Child of the Manger, to grant us His peace.” Pray also for a continued open door to provide food, hygiene supplies, blankets, and other much-needed aid in Syria.
