Hope in Time of Need

Clinic staff work on Wislenne’s burns at the CAM clinic in La Source, Haiti.

Four-year-old Wislenne played with fire one time too many. Nearly half of her body was covered with burns when her parents brought her to CAM’s Joshua Memorial Clinic in La Source, Haiti. Some of the burns were so deep that her bones could be seen. The clinic staff dressed the burns using donated medicines and bandages. For six weeks, they replaced her bandages daily.

Then Wislenne developed heart failure, and the staff needed to transfer her to a larger medical facility. CAM’s Special-Needs-Fund paid for transportation, hospital expenses, and food during Wislenne’s hospitalization. Sadly, two and a half months after she was burned, Wislenne passed away.

“We’re glad we were able to show Wislenne love and talk with her parents about Christ,” says clinic administrator Dave Martin. “It was obvious her parents were very poor mountain people. They were grateful for the help we could give them during this time.”

The Special-Needs-Fund is used in various countries to help with medical needs, house fires, and other emergencies. CAM field staff receive many requests for help in emergency situations. It can be difficult to identify who is truly the neediest and who should receive the assistance. Usually CAM staff visit the homes of potential recipients and evaluate their situations before deciding to help.

Our goal for the Special-Needs-Fund is simple. We want to show the compassion of Christ to those who are really hurting and offer them hope at a time of desperate need.
