Stitches of Joy

Sewing Centers

Ioan with the clothes and comforter he received from a CAM sewing center in Romania.

When CAM delivered a load of clothing and comforters to a church in southern Romania, the pastor cried tears of joy. He helped distribute the items evenly among the church members. Ioan, an elderly man from the congregation, said, “I don’t own any clothes as good as the ones you gave me!” The clothing was sewn by various CAM-supported sewing centers.

Six sewing centers in Romania receive donated fabric, sewing machines, and funds to cover operating expenses. Women learn to sew at these centers and take home a fourth of what they produce to provide for the needs of their families. The rest is distributed among other needy people in the area.

Vasile, who oversees our sewing centers in Romania, says, “We use every piece of material. We don’t throw anything away. All of the items that are made are given away; nothing is sold.”
