Haiti is bracing itself for violent winds and flash flooding as Hurricane Matthew, one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes in recent history, approaches land. The hurricane is scheduled to hit Haiti by late tonight, October 3.

Forecasters say as much as 40 inches of rain may fall in parts of the country. Poverty-stricken families in isolated areas face the potential of deadly mudslides and floods.

CAM’s International Crisis team is on stand-by, carefully monitoring the hurricane as it approaches landfall and preparing to provide emergency relief as needed.

Should Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti as predicted, CAM will respond with emergency aid as soon as possible. If more funds are received than needed, they will be used in other International Crisis projects.
