Floodwaters that crested over the weekend have started to recede in areas surrounding St. Louis. Today CAM Rapid Response volunteers are starting cleanup in Pacific, Missouri, a hard-hit city along the Meramec River.
Rapid Response director Kim Eichorn says cleanup will likely take as long as three weeks. Flood cleanup usually involves mucking out houses, removing drywall and insulation, and spraying for mold.
Even though waters are receding in most parts of Illinois and Missouri, the flooding seems far from over. As floodwaters slowly move down the Mississippi River, some are calling it a slow-motion disaster. Rivers are expected to crest in South Arkansas by the end of the week and even later in the month in Louisiana and Mississippi.
