Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica on October 28, 2025. Winds up to 185 mph leveled thousands of houses and took the roofs off many more. Most wood-framed houses in the center of the storm’s path were wiped off their foundations. In these areas, approximately half of the houses are either completely destroyed or without a roof.
CAM volunteers rebuilt 60 houses this past winter for people whose houses were destroyed or severely damaged. With your support, we plan to continue rebuilding for these people this winter. Most of the rebuilding will be for handicapped and elderly people who have no means to rebuild. We estimate the cost of this project at $675,000.
The estimated average cost per house is $6,000. Donors of this amount or more will receive a photo and brief information about a house that was rebuilt or repaired.
