Working the Soil and Planting Seeds in Hearts

On the Greek island of Lesvos, CAM staff members use an agriculture project to disciple refugees who escaped war or poverty in their home countries. Refugees work alongside our staff members on a small vegetable farm, tending and harvesting vegetables and taking part in regular Bible studies. They focus on raising lettuce, spinach, dill, parsley, chives, zucchini, tomatoes, and eggplant. Experience with raising produce can help them provide for themselves, whether they remain in Greece or immigrate to another part of Europe.

Our farm manager writes, “Our work here consists of managing the farm and operating a roadside stand, but above all, seeking to point toward something far greater— something that transcends all earthly needs. . . . We value the opportunity to listen to [the refugees’] stories and to share in both the sorrows and the joys life has brought . . . I am continually struck by the profound truth that every life has value and every person has a place in God’s kingdom.”
