Wasby’s eyes tell the sad story of malnutrition and suffering. At seven years old, he weighed only 23 pounds, the average weight of an 18-month-old in America. Our clinic staff in La Source, Haiti, prescribed Herbalife, and within two months, Wasby’s weight was up to 32 pounds. Wasby is on his way to wellness, but he still has a long way to go.
Malnourishment causes many problems for children. Their bodies swell, joints ache, and skin becomes easily bruised. Fatigue and dizziness keep them from being able to learn, concentrate, and interact with others. A breakdown in the immune system leaves these children vulnerable to pneumonia, diarrhea, tuberculosis, and other diseases. According to World Hunger, “children who are poorly nourished suffer up to 160 days of illness each year.” The ultimate consequence of malnutrition is death. More than three million children die from malnutrition each year.
Lack of protein is a major contributor to malnutrition. That’s why we are so grateful for donated Herbalife to send to Haiti and Liberia. Children in these countries are at high risk for malnutrition due to a lack of food and a well-balanced diet. Herbalife’s nutritional drink mix contains 11 grams of protein in every serving, along with 20 vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients. For the past several years, we have been able to get this life-saving product through an agency that specializes in acquiring free products from companies in the United States. Thousands of malnourished children and adults have been helped through this product.
Please pray that we can continue to receive this important item. Herbalife makes a difference for the babies whose mothers have died or can’t provide enough milk to nourish them, for the patients suffering from HIV or tuberculosis, and for the children who are living the sad story of malnutrition.
