Eastern European Gypsies have roots in India, their dark skin giving them a distinct appearance from most of their Romanian neighbors. Because this sect is often accused, and sometimes guilty, of begging or stealing, much of society disdains and mistreats them. School is no exception. Gypsy students often live with shame associated to their culture and fall behind in their studies due to their teachers’ neglect.

Out of a heart for those who have been left behind in the public school system, CAM started five remedial schools for Gypsy children near Suceava, Romania. These schools operate as an after school program. The children receive a tailored education to help them excel in the basics such as reading and writing so they can catch up with their classmates. Most importantly, the students receive acceptance and learn lessons from the Bible.
