An earthquake, a volcano eruption, and a storm

International Crisis responds to natural disasters through physical and spiritual aid. In the past months, your funds have enabled us to respond to various crises, including those below.

Indonesia: Volcano and earthquake

Mount Semeru, a volcano in Indonesia, erupted in early December, spewing a layer of ashes and lava. In some villages, ashes covered houses up to the rooftops, making rescue efforts nearly impossible. International Crisis funds enabled CAM contacts to distribute food, milk, blankets, and scarves to approximately 600 displaced families.

On December 14, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia’s coast. Residents fled their homes in panic. With supporters’ funds, we supplied rice, milk, blankets, and clothing to some of the earthquake victims.

Philippines: Super Typhoon Rai

Super Typhoon Rai pummeled the Philippines on December 16. In the carnage, more than 300 people are dead. The storm destroyed over 20,000 homes and left many more damaged. CAM responded by providing food, water, blankets, and solar-powered lights.
