A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar early Friday morning, collapsing apartment buildings in Myanmar and neighboring Thailand. It was followed by a 6.4 magnitude aftershock. Parts of Myanmar declared a state of emergency as rescue workers began searching for people in the rubble. More than 1600 are reported dead as of March 29.
A pastor in Myanmar shared, “Many people are sleeping on the street tonight for fear of an aftershock. There has been a nationwide blackout since the earthquake. Also, since the civil war, . . . many clinics [have been shut down]. Now patients are having to wait outside the Mandalay hospital.”
The people of Myanmar have already suffered so much from a civil war that began in 2021. Please pray for the many who are suffering and for our staff and contacts as they try to find the best way to help. CAM staff are working with contacts in the region to identify the greatest needs and provide a helping hand to those suffering from the earthquake.
