The lives of thousands of families in Ecuador were dramatically changed when a powerful earthquake rocked the country on April 16, 2016. More than 600 people were killed and thousands more injured. Many lost homes and possessions and now struggle to rebuild their lives in the devastating aftermath.
A CAM team visited Ecuador a few days after the earthquake to investigate the needs. During their visit, they distributed sheets of plastic for earthquake victims to use in constructing makeshift shelters. They also distributed Bible story books to encourage earthquake victims. Our team found that the government was actively helping people with initial emergency assistance. However, many families are in need of long-term shelter.
Doors are open for CAM to work with contacts in Ecuador to meet this need for housing. The mayor of one town said they would welcome a rebuilding team with open arms.
To help provide housing for some of the families affected by the earthquake, CAM plans to start a rebuilding project in Ecuador in the fall of 2016. In addition to building homes, this project will provide an opportunity to be a conservative Christian witness in Ecuador. We will continue to make literature distribution a central part of the project.
The funding goal for this project is $250,000 with plans to use at least part of that for literature. If you feel led to help, your gift will be a blessing to those who are suffering.
God bless you!
