After weeks of preparation and research, CAM’s rebuilding project for Hurricane Matthew victims in Haiti is underway.

Two bases have been set up in heavily affected areas. One base is in the seaside town of Jeremie. The other is in the mountains, where people have received no help since the hurricane hit on October 4. When our staff researched this mountainous area, they found 97 percent of the houses totally destroyed.

Excessive rainfall throughout the past month has created even more hardship for Haitians living under scraps they salvaged from their destroyed homes. The rain has also made it difficult for our staff to travel into these areas to help.

Ways CAM is helping hurricane victims in Haiti:

  • Distributing building supplies for people to repair their homes.
  • Providing water purification tablets to help prevent the spread of deadly cholera.
  • Supplying seeds so Haitians can replant gardens that were destroyed.
  • Rebuilding houses for more than 350 families.

House made of scraps

Many Haitians are living under scraps salvaged from their destroyed homes.

When CAM staff members were researching needs in this mountainous area, they discovered that most of the homes were destroyed.

When CAM staff arrived in this mountainous area to research the needs, they discovered most of the homes destroyed.

CAM will use this place as a base while reaching out to a mountainous area that was heavily affected by Hurricane Matthew.

Please pray for the many Haitians who are still suffering and for our staff as they research needs and find ways to help. If you wish to help victims of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti, you may donate below.
