Americans spend hundreds of hours commuting each year, averaging about 27 minutes per day. Every day, an estimated 8.5 million people pass our Gospel billboards. Some are confused with religion or think all religions are equal. Others think if people do good things, they don’t need a Saviour. Some think there is no heaven, hell, or life after death. Many struggle with addictions. No matter who they are, the emptiness in their souls can be filled only by Jesus Christ. And, praise God, some of these viewers are sincerely seeking for a way to fill that emptiness.
Alexander* saw our billboard If you die tonight, heaven or hell? and inquired about what we believe. “There are so many religions,” he said. “I am studying different ones, including Hinduism and the Hare Krishna movement.”
Alexander went on to say he has a Bible, which he reads occasionally, but he has a problem with the bloodshed and what he sees as conflicting stories. He also wonders why God would allow evil if He is the God the Bible describes.
Our team member encouraged Alexander to be open-minded as he continues searching for truth. He explained that the evil in the Old Testament was not God’s perfect plan, but God allowed it because of the hardness of man’s heart.
“Get on your knees and ask God to show you who He is,” our team member told Alexander, “because God said we will find Him if we search for Him with all our heart.” Alexander thanked him and asked to stay in touch. “I am afraid to die,” he said.
The variety of calls our phone team members receive give us a glimpse of the great spiritual needs around us. We are grateful for the opportunities we have to share the truth of God’s Word.
