Sam fingered the SALT newsletter, looking at the circle of brightly dressed women in a Bangladesh courtyard.
“Sounds like they’ve got the same problems in Bangladesh as our employees,” he called to his wife from the recliner. “What do you mean?” Mary asked, looking up from the cupcakes she was frosting.
“They’re teaching people in Bangladesh to quit wasting money on addictions—betel nuts in this case.” Sam sighed. “Blake came to my office this morning with bloodshot eyes, asking if he could get his paycheck early. I’m never sure what to do. Bailing him out doesn’t really help him with his money problems.”
Mary licked her spoon before dropping it in the sink. “I think we’ve got some spending problems in our own church. Did you see the new boat in Nelson’s driveway?”
Sam nodded. “But honestly, we’ve spent money on items we don’t need either. I think we could all benefit from some teaching and conversations about stewardship.”
Sam squinted at the SALT newsletter again. “You know, I am glad we can send money to teach stewardship
in other places, but I wish we could do more to help people right around us be good stewards.”
