Ministering Through English classes

Imagine fleeing your home because of violence or economic hardships and finally reaching the country of your dreams. Reality and loneliness quickly set in. You know no one, and wonder how you will provide for your family or find a place to live. You also realize the language barrier makes these things especially hard to figure out.

U.S. Migrant Ministry supports conservative Anabaptists reaching out to vulnerable migrants in America with the message of hope and God’s love. One way of ministering is by teaching English classes, helping students acclimate while building relationships.

In these classes, tangible items help English language concepts stick and bring an element of fun. The women in the photo are making a fruit salad, and as they work, they review English fruit names and terms like “or” and “but not.” Please pray that this ministry would help migrants learn more than a new language: the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
