Work-for-Wages workers dig 3- to 4- foot trenches to retain rainwater so it doesn’t erode the hillside.

Digging Trenches and Learning About God

Because of gang violence, Dieul moved his family from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to a rural area nine months ago. He makes a small income by selling fried pastries, but it’s hardly enough to get by.Work for Wages 2 1

When Dieul heard about Work-for-Wages, he took the opportunity to join. He plans to continue selling pastries after the two-week trench-digging project is over. “This project is helping me in two ways,” Dieul said. “It’s helpful to the community, and it’s helpful for me as well because my family is displaced and this project gives me funds to help my family. . . . Thank you very much for providing this work and may God continue to bless you.”

Lysnor, a Haitian who helps schedule workers for projects, emphasized that spiritual issues cause the problems in Haiti. He pointed at his head and said, “The problem isn’t here.” Then he pointed to his heart. “The problem is here.” Each morning on Work-for-Wages projects, a devotional helps point workers to Christ, the solution to this heart problem. We praise God that several workers recently repented and chose to follow Christ!
