Communism collapsed in Eastern Europe more than 30 years ago, but its effects can still be seen today. The cost of living continues to rise in spite of low incomes and families wonder how they will survive. For the poorest of families in Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, food parcels bring a ray of hope. Adopt-A-Family parcels are mostly for struggling Christian families, but some parcels are distributed to unbelievers as a means of outreach. This program also helps support needy recipients in the Middle East and families in Nicaragua, the second poorest country in the western hemisphere. Each sponsorship of $75 a month sends a 50-pound parcel of food and healthcare items to those in need.
