Twenty-nine-year-old Adick was called by his church to serve as an assistant pastor in a remote Nicaraguan village. Adick had chosen to follow Jesus only four years before, and he and his wife felt a need for more discipleship and teaching to carry out God’s calling. Despite his lack of experience and Biblical knowledge, Adick agreed to the church’s request and did his best to disciple others.
After other pastors shared how they had grown under the teaching at the Nicaragua Biblical Discipleship Center, Adick applied for the classes and bid farewell to his wife and sons. He traveled more than 18 hours by bus and boat before finally arriving at the Biblical Discipleship Center.
Over the next three weeks, Adick and about 20 other men dug into God’s Word to learn about the foundations of the Christian faith including creation, the fall of man, and the power of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Conservative Anabaptist instructors with years of experience led discussions, taught from the Bible, and asked thought-provoking questions.
Adick was deeply impacted by the training and returned to his congregation to teach what he had learned. Since the community has little access to Bible study materials, he used the discipleship center’s study course materials to lead in topic studies. Adick is looking forward to taking a fourth study course later this year.
More than 80 percent of Nicaraguans profess Christianity, but few have had the opportunity to learn about what it truly means to walk with the Lord in daily life. Biblical Discipleship Centers in Nicaragua and Liberia equip men like Adick to teach and disciple others for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, and for the edifying of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:12).
